Teofimo Lopez Sr. said his son would win a world title in his 15th professional fight.

Lopez Jr. (15-0, 12 KOs) backed up his fathers bold words Saturday night by starching IBF lightweight champion Richard Commey (29-3, 26 KOs) in round two before a stunned crowd at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

The time was 1:13 seconds into round two.

Jabs was the key in the opening stanza. Both fighters popped em. Commey connected with a right while Lopez landed a couple of left hooks. Commey went to the body in round two. Lopez landed a check hook that hurt Commey.

Seconds later Lopez dipped and ripped a right hand. The blow landed flush on Commey’s chin. The soon to be ex lightweight champion crumbled to the mat. Commey got up on rubbery legs. Lopez fired punch after punch until the referee waved the fight off.

“God thank you,” said Lopez with tears in his eyes. “That’s a dangerous man. I’m grateful. Dreams come true. I’m going to finish the year enjoying life.”

Lopez has earned it.

Next up is a guy named Lomachenko.
