ESPN’s “The Fight Life” is as good as it gets

An outstanding new series, “The Fight Life,” debuted on the ESPN platform. If the first episodes are any indication of what is to come, this is as good as it gets. For fight fans who want to get access to the workings of boxing’s biggest promotional firm, this series is gold.

The show chronicles the players, both in and out of the ring, for a calendar year, around the lives of 5 Top Rank Boxing fighters. 

The documentary series follows brash British heavyweight Tyson Fury, Japanese superstar Naoya Inoue, California’s Seniesa Estrada, ultra-talented Teofimo Lopez, and Scotland’s Josh Taylor. 

While the deep, star-studded Top Rank roster would have allowed for a dozen more players, these fighters’ narrative bring as much out of the ring as they do in it. 

They are 5 unique and interesting fighters. 

While the fighters are the central focus for all shows as they are the product being sold, it is the look behind the scenes that is most intriguing. 

The show focuses on the business of boxing, with interviews and exclusives with many of the main players in the Top Rank organization. Legendary company founder Bob Arum, in his 90’s, still has a passion and energy for the sport and the inherent business of boxing. The show also includes many of the support staff that make the multi-million-dollar operation run weekly, show after show. 

For boxing fans who like to get a rare peek behind the curtain, this is must-see TV.
