40-something heavyweight Luis Ortiz didn’t look pleased when Alexander Flores went down from a jab to the body 40 seconds into their fight from Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, CA Saturday night.

No matter, Flores couldn’t beat the count, and later said his right leg and eye were injured.

The official time was 45 seconds.

Southpaw Ortiz (32-2, 27 KOs) was fighting for the first time since being starched by then heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder last November. Ortiz was winning that fight quite easily until Wilder clocked him with his “Suzie-Q” – a right hand. Ortiz collapsed like a rickety building. The fight was a rematch which unfortunately for Ortiz, had gone down in a similar fashion.

Flores (18-3-1, 16 KOs) was knocked out for the third time in his career. He replaced Scott Alexander when Alexander had to bow out due to testing positive for Covid-19. Boxing, like all sports, has levels.
