Usyk is the better fighter
Tyson Fury thought he won.
Oleksandr Usyk knew he had won.
Usyk defeated Fury for the second time a few days ago at the Kingdom Stadium in Riyadh.
Scores were 116-112 across the board.
Maxboxing also saw Usyk as the winner by the same tally.
The fight was close, but Usyk (23-0, 14 KOs) was the sharper man all night.
He started faster this time, determined to not fall behind like he did during their first fight nine months ago.
Both fighters worked the body. Fury (32-2, 24 KOs) landed hooks, while Usyk systematically fired left hands.
Usyk, giving away 55 pounds at least in weight, and six inches in reach, upped his skill level in the second half of the fight. Fury appeared sluggish at times, likely because of all the weight he was carrying. Did he think he was fighting Deontay Wilder?
Walking down, Usyk wouldn’t get the job done.
The former cruiserweight champion and undisputed heavyweight champion is too smart. And disciplined. All he does is win. He’d answer a Fury jab with a sharp one-two. Fury fought better during the rematch, but it still wasn’t enough.
Usyk IS the better fighter.
Next up for the champion could be Daniel Dubois, who awkwardly called out Usyk in the ring after his victory.
And Fury? Hard to say. He can fight Anthony Joshua, but the heat for that fight has cooled.
