Unbeaten heavyweight contender Joseph Parker, 19-0-(16), out-pointed Carlos Takam,33-3-1-(25), over 12 rounds in a an IBF eliminator on Saturday night at the Vodafone Events Centre in Manukau City, New Zealand.
Parker made a slow start in the opening round but both upped the pace in the second session until Parker took over in the third and fourth rounds until Takam unloaded on Parker in round five.
Parker tried to fight back in the sixth but Takam finished on top . In round seven and eight Parker took control as Takam’s work rate dropped off. round seven for Parker
Parker launched some heavy punches late on but Takam fired back in equal measure. The final rounds were close and evenly contested but Parker held on to clinch a 116-112, 116-112 and 115-113 points win.
