Callum Walsh in Commerce June 9

Callum Walsh will have Irish eyes smiling in Commerce, California on June 9.

On Friday, June 9, Tom Loeffler’s ‘360 Promotions’, live on UFC Fight Pass, will present another night of boxing live from the Commerce Casino, in Commerce, California. The ‘Hollywood Fight Night’ main event will see fast-rising Irish star Callum Walsh (6-0, 5 KOs) in his toughest test to date against rugged veteran Carson Jones (43-15-3, 31 KOs). They will be squaring off for the WBC USA Silver super welterweight title. 

While Walsh has been turning heads with his impressive performances since going pro in late 2021, he will certainly raise the bar if he can look good against veteran Jones who has been in with a long list of champions and contenders including Jesus Soto Karass, Kell Brook and Antonio Margarito, to name a few. It is a big step up for Walsh in only his 7th outing, but it is a move the Cork, Ireland native is excited to take.

Walsh, who trains out of Freddie Roach’s Wild Card Gym in Hollywood, has been a fighter to keep an eye on since the day he started to punch for pay. Promoter Loeffler, and Hall of Fame trainer Roach, both know the real deal when they see it, and both are very excited about the undefeated 154-pounder. Both promoter and trainer see a very strong skill set with the ability to box, fight on the inside, and land powerful shots from the left or right.

In recent interviews, Walsh made it clear that he is coming to impress from first bell and is working towards a title shot - sooner than later.

“The sky is the limit. That is what we are going for”, he said. “I want to be fighting for the title one day as soon as I can. When people come see me, they will have an exciting fight. That is what I go for. I don’t put on boring fights. I go for a big knockout”, said Walsh.

Loeffler who has promoted some of boxing’s elite pound-for-pound champions, says he’ll have Walsh under the lights 4 or 5 times this year; great news for fight fans.

“Freddie Roach thinks Callum is one of the most talented young fighters he has ever seen”, said Loeffler. “He is currently 6-0 and we’d like to get him in the ring 4 or 5 times this year, he’ll be active, 4 or 5 fights for sure”.    

And that is fine by Roach, who is very confident he has another champion on his hands with the exciting Walsh.

“He has a lot of heart, and he is a hard worker”, said Roach. “We’ll take on anyone out there, anyone who wants it, bring it”, he said.

Another fighter to keep a close watch on who will also be fighting in Commerce is undefeated light heavyweight prospect Umar Dzambekov, who has been perfect so far at 4-0 in 4 outings. In a recent interview, Manager Steven Feder was raving about his 175-pound prospect and indicated this is a fighter that has it all.

“He has great power and moves very well, “said Feder. “He really has, like, crazy power, and has very good speed”, he said. “He is going to be a tough guy to beat. You look at him and see the whole package”, he said.

Trainers Marvin Somodio and Pepe Reilly are hard at work getting their fighter ready for his 5th bout and know he is excited to be back in the ring on June 9.

“Training has been going great”, said Somodio, a long-time Wild Card trainer. “He is improving every day; he is ready”.
