Bragging rights for what? Floyd Mayweather defeatzzz Logan Paul

In the end, it was kind of sad in my opinion to watch Floyd Mayweather stalk a somewhat game, though clearly out-classed, Paul around the ring looking to do something that might excite the crowd, that grew more restless and agitated as the 8 round bout progressed.

Sunday night, June 6, live from the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, it was former P4P great Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. YouTube sensation Logan Paul.

While many in boxing are rolling their eyes at the thought of a great fighter like Floyd Mayweather boxing against a complete novice like Paul, there was no mistaking the interest as Mayweather and YouTube star Paul managed to get ShowTime Sports on board who were presenting the card as a PPV telecast.

Mayweather, who made hundreds of millions of dollars boxing, seems to be enjoying retirement and living the good life. However, he has learned that nothing pays like elite level sports events and in this case he was scheduled to earn in the 30-million dollar range. As Floyd himself said before the bout, “Not bad for a guy who is retired”.

In the end, it was kind of sad in my opinion to watch Floyd Mayweather stalk a somewhat game, though clearly out-classed, Paul around the ring looking to do something that might excite the crowd, that grew more restless and agitated as the 8 round bout progressed.

Floyd couldn’t put Paul away so it went the full 8 and it couldn’t end soon enough. Their post-fight comments seemed to echo the idea that both were somewhat impressed with each other but judging by the boos raining down from the crowd, nobody else was. “He’s better than I thought he was” said Floyd, while Paul added, “I’m happy I made it out. He’s tough to hit."

OFF-TV

Dorian Mark Khan (1-0, 1 KO) TKO 3 Jonathan Gray (0-4)

Jalil Hacket (1-0, 1 KO) KO 1 Angelo Diaz (0-1)

Adrian Benton (5-0, 3 KO’s) UD 4 Pedro Cruz (1-1)

Final Thoughts

There was never any denying the outstanding talent of a guy like Mayweather who retired with an unblemished 50-0 record, while collecting numerous word titles. However, the question may arise at some point, is he hurting his legacy? Floyd reached the 50th win of his illustrious career by stopping MMA star Connor McGregor who had never had a boxing match in his life and now he is doing the sideshow circuit. Nothing Floyd does in these retirement fights should blemish his outstanding career. But, after all he did in his real boxing career, you’d hate for him to just be remembered for these goofy (albeit well paying) gigs. But, Floyd, who changed is nickname from “Pretty Boy” to “Money” has always said, “if it makes dollars it makes sense” and there is no denying he knows how to make dollars. Rumours are next up is Logan’s brother Jake - insert eye roll here.
