Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk postponed after cut in sparring

The undisputed world heavyweight title fight between WBC ruler Tyson Fury and unified champion Oleksandr Usyk, originally scheduled for February 17 in Riyadh, has been postponed with just over two weeks to go.

It was reported earlier today that Fury had suffered a horrendous cut in sparring and a video was later released showing the moment it apparently occurred. The laceration, caused it seems by a left hook, is over Fury’s right eye and reportedly necessitated 16 stitches.

Fury, met with more skepticism than sympathy when the news broke, quickly issued a statement. "I am absolutely devastated after preparing for this fight for so long and being in such superb condition," stated the ’Gypsy King’ who did look lean in the video. "I feel bad for everyone involved in this huge event and I will work diligently towards the rescheduled date once the eye has healed. I can only apologise to everyone affected including my own team, Team Usyk, the undercard fighters, partners, and fans as well as our hosts and my friends in Saudi Arabia."

It is believed Usyk’s team are currently negotiating with the handlers of IBF mandatory contender Filip Hrgovic to agree a replacement main event for the 17th, and remove a pressing obligation, in the same fight.
