Akira Yaegashi, 23-5-(12), scored a highly impressive 12 round unanimous decision on Tuesday to claim the IBF junior flyweight title from defending champ Javier Mendoza, 24-3-1-(19),In Tokyo, Japan.
The score were 117-111, 119-109 and 120-107. There were no knockdowns.
The 32-year-old veteran is now a three weight champion.
On the same card WBO junior bantamweight champ Naoya Inoue, from Japan, improved to 9-0-(8), by destroying Warlito Parenas, 24-7-1-(21), from the Philippines, after 1:20 of round two.
Parenas was down twice and could not cope with Inoue’s power.
