Ryoichi Taguchi, 25-2-1-(11) from Japan, retained his WBA light-flyweight title against mandatory challenger Ryo Miyazaki, 24-2-3-(15), via 12 round unanimous decision Wednesday night in Tokyo, Japan.
Taguchi, who was making the fourth defense of his title, was far too quick and elusive on his way to a
119-109, 117-111, and 116-112, points win on all three cards. Miyazaki, form Osaka, made a positive start and delivered a strong finish but it was nowhere enough to unsettle the champion.
On the same card Panamanian Luis Concepcion, 35-4-(24), claimed the WBA super-flyweight title from defending champ Kohei Kono, 32-9-1-(13). Vis 12 round unanimous decision in a hard fought battle. The official scores were 116-112 twice and 115-113.
Kono,who was making the fourth defence of his title sustained a cut over the left eyebrow in the seventh round and hampered his progress throughout the fight. Concepcion was cut over the left option in the 11th round.
