Sanchez Believes Golovkin Will Clean Up At 168lbs

Abel Sanchez, the trainer of world middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin, insists Gennady Golovkin can move up to super-middleweight and clean at 168lbs.

Golovkin, 35-0-(32), holds the WBA, IBF and WBC middleweight crowns, is said to be in negotiations for a ‘super fight’ against Mexican Saul Alvarez but Sanchez believes that if the unbeaten puncher moves up a division he will be even more dangerous.

Speaking to On The Ropes Boxing Sanchez said: "I see Golovkin being a better 168lb fighter than he is a middleweight. If and when he moves up, he’s going to be a much better fighter.

"I think he’s going to be able to slow his attack down because these guys will be a little slower and he’ll be able to pinpoint a little better what he needs to do.

"I don’t think there’s anybody at 168lbs that’s going to give him trouble, either. It’s just a matter of getting more belts and moving on."
