Undefeated junior middleweight Tim Tszyu 16-0 (12) delivered a one-sided beatdown to former world champion Jeff Horn 20-3-1 (13) stopping him eight frames at the Queensland Country Bank Stadium in Townsville, Australia on Wednesday night.

The 25-year-old Sydneysider was sharper from the get-go, using his speed and ring generalship to control the ring and surprisingly being the stronger man on the inside.

Body shots were a key feature of the fight, with Tszyu banging away downstairs with both hands. The left rip was a particularly damaging punch.

Horn, 32, had no answers and simply looked like a shot fighter.

The former Brisbane schoolteacher walked into a brutal left uppercut that left him on the deck in the third round, but he bravely rose to his feet and clinched his way out of trouble.

Sadly, the writing was on the wall.

Tszyu continued to paste Horn with lefts and rights, displaying the same poise and precision that drove his father Kostya Tszyu to the undisputed junior welterweight championship of the world and saw him inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.

Referee Phil Austin controlled the action well, breaking up the roughhousing from both pugilists in close and warning both combatants when things got messy.

At the end of the eighth round Horn’s trainer Glenn Rushton implored his fighter to continue. Referee Austin wisely stepped in to declare that the former WBO welterweight champion had had enough.

After being crowned the winner, Tszyu said he wanted to create his own legacy independent of his father.

"I want everyone to know, my name’s Tim, not the son," Tszyu said.

Jeff Fenech, who tipped Horn to win the fight, was blown away by Tszyu’s performance.

“I’m pretty happy to be proven wrong, I thought he might’ve bitten off a bit more than he could chew,” said Fenech.

“He deserves to be [the new king of Aussie boxing]. There were no shortcuts here.”

Tszyu embraced his position as the rising star of Australian boxing, with a potential fight against Brazil’s WBO world champion Patrick Teixeira in the offing.

“I’m here to fly the flag for Australia and represent all these people over Australia and Russia, I’ll have some real world title straps around my waist soon,” Tszyu said.

He added: “Remember… it’s Tim Tszyu.”
