Before his fight with Gilberto Ramirez, Dmitry Bivol wondered why his opponent was so brash.

“I don’t know why he’s so confident,” said Bivol in an interview with FightHubTV. “For me, it doesn’t matter. Maybe because he never lost. Maybe he wants attention. It’s all about fighting. It’s all about actions in the ring. I can say whatever I want, I should prove it in the ring.”

Bivol proved last Saturday night to be the far better fighter, dominating the bigger Ramirez over 12 rounds. He was faster, quicker, and smarter. His sense of distance was on point. Several right hands landed. Ramirez would occasionally score, but Bivol used his superior technique and footwork to move away and pounce.

If Ramirez paused to reset, Bivol would make him pay. He hurt Ramirez multiple times during the fight. Smooth and effortless.

Masterclass.

Scores were 118-110 and 117-111 twice.

Bivol is now the leading candidate for “Fighter of the Year.”

Undefeated Chantelle Cameron stays that way by outpointing current welterweight champion Jessica McCaskill over 10 rounds. Cameron jumped out to lead, outworking the physical McCaskill in the first half of the fight. McCaskill found herself in the last few rounds, scoring more consistently.

Cameron is in the running to fight Katie Taylor sometime next year.

Looking more and more like the real deal, David Morrell brutally knocked out mandatory challenger Aidos Yerbossynuly in the 12th round. Morrell was the better man in every way. Yerbossynuly showed tremendous courage. Maybe too much.

The 30-year-old was placed in a medically induced coma yesterday. Prayers.

On the comeback trail, former contenders Andre Dirrell and Julian Williams notched victories on the Morrell undercard. Dirrell stopped Yuniski Gonzalez in the 10th round, while Williams defeated Rolando Mansilla over eight rounds.
