The War on the Shore series continued Saturday night in Cleveland, Ohio at the historic LaSalle Theater in front of an enthusiastic contingent of fight fans.
The 11th installment entitled "Fall Brawl" by Gedeon Promotions and Gionta Management was the second Pro-Am co-promoted by the two young promoters.
"We had a great crowd and I’m proud of all of my fighters on their performances in the amateur and pro fights," said Bryan Gedeon.
In the main event of the evening, local heavyweight DaJuan "The Punisher" Calloway (8-3, 7 KOs) defeated Willie "The Snake" Jake Jr (11-5-2, 3 KOs) over six rounds of action.
Calloway pressed forward against the elusive southpaw, Jake, from the start. Jake circled, picked his shots and did all he could to elude the much heavier Calloway.
Calloway scored a flash knockdown late in the first and once again in the middle of the fight.
Jake had success in spurts with sneaky body shots and a snapping jab.
By the fight’s conclusion, the judges scored the fight 60-52 x 2 and 59-53.
Calloway and Jake both saw recent action on ESPN undercards.
In the four-round co-feature, popular Cleveland middleweight Nick Rezek (1-0, 1 KO) made his debut a successful one with a second-round TKO of North Carolina’s Dillon Schimmel (1-1).
After a brief feeling out stage in the opening stanza, the two began trading leather with Rezek on the better end of the exchanges.
A late knockdown punctuated the round.
In the second round, Rezek continued to hit the gas, scoring two more knockdowns as referee stopped the fight.
Both tipped the scales at 163 lbs.
Cleveland junior middleweight Hamza Abedrabo (154.5 lbs, 1-0) had a successful professional debut by defeating fellow debutant Jake Earls (151 lbs, 0-1), of Cincinnati by unanimous decision.
The two lefties went toe to toe from the opening bell.
Abedrabo used his slick movement and nifty defense to pick his shots throughout while Earls pressed the action and snuck in some clean shots.
A cut surfaced over the right eye of Earls late in the fight, while Abedrabo continued to pick his shots and showboat a little as the fight concluded.
Earls was game and showed a lot of heart.
All three judges saw the fight 40-36.
Featherweight Joe Collins (5-0, 5 KOs) of West Virginia defeated David Ryan Firlotte (0-3) of Canada by first-round TKO in a scheduled four-rounder.
Collins started out aggressively in the first while Firlotte was on the retreat.
Collins eventually settled in and scored multiple knockdowns, ending the fight at the 2:31 mark of the first.
Both came in under the 126 lb limit.
" We had a great night of fights at a great venue with great fans," said Derek Gionta.
"We had some unfortunate circumstances at the weigh-ins losing a couple fights with both fighters coming in 13 or more pounds under the contracted weight."
