Brooklyn heavyweight Adam Kownacki challenges Robert Helenius in a title eliminator in the main event of PBC’s [Premier Boxing Champions] heavyweight tripleheader this Saturday night at the Barclays Center in the county of kings.

All of the action will be televised on Fox and Fox Deportes at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

Hopefully, the winner of the Kownacki-Helenius clash will land a title shot in the immediate future. But with the current landscape of the heavyweight division, it doesn’t seem likely that neither Kownacki or Helenius will get what they desire anytime soon.

The winner automatically becomes the mandatory opponent for the WBA, WBO and IBF champion Anthony Joshua. However, Joshua has a date with Kubrat Pulev in June and hopefully another one in December with Tyson Fury for the undisputed heavyweight championship.

“Fighting for a shot at the title is truly motivating. I know this is a big fight for Robert as well and he’s trained hard, but my title opportunity is right around the corner,” said Kownacki. “I could have waited, but I decided to take on this big test. I’m going to show off why I’m ready to fight for the title soon.

I’m looking for a spectacular knockout. I want to show why I’m one of the best heavyweights in the world. I have to take care of business.”

The 36-year-old Helenius is originally from Sweden, however, he is currently representing his adopted home of Finland. Helenius brings a record of 29-3, (18) into his fight with Kownacki.

Helenius’s three losses on his ledger [two of which were by knockout] were to Johann Duhaupas, Dillian Whyte and Gerald Washington.

Helenius is well aware of the chance he has to upset the ‘apple cart.’

“I have an opportunity to make a great fight Saturday and that’s what I trained for,” Helenius. said “I’m ready and I had a great training camp. I can’t wait to get into the ring. This fight we came two weeks earlier to the U.S. My body has gotten used to the difference.

Plus, the sparring in Alabama at Deontay Wilder’s gym really helped get me ready. We’re doing everything right and training has been great. We’ve sparred so many rounds, I feel very sharp and ready to get into the ring against Kownacki.”

Saturday night, will mark Kownacki’s 10th time fighting at Barclays. The fifth straight for the 30-year-old, but he hasn’t fought since last summer when he defeated Chris Arreola in a grueling 12-rounder.

“I love fighting here in Brooklyn at Barclays Center. It’s almost half my career that I’ve fought in that ring, so it’s definitely my second home,” Kownacki said. “I love hearing the fans yelling on fight night and that definitely gives me extra energy and motivation to fight in the later rounds. It’s truly amazing to have fans all over the world come to share this night with me, and it’s an honor to have this following.

It’s breathtaking really. I’d tell them to continue on this journey toward becoming a heavyweight world champion.”
