On June 11, Chattanooga lightweight Roger Hilley will seek to continue his professional campaign and remain unbeaten against Argentina’s Jonatan Hernan Godoy. Hilley headlines the seven-bout Southpaw Promotions card at Montague Park at 1151 East 23rd Street in Chattanooga.

In Hilley, boxing fans will see a rising southpaw with power in both hands to back up his sound boxing fundamentals. He favors his hook as his best punch Hilley built his boxing skill base while amassing an amateur record of 97-20. Currently, the Chattanooga prospect stands at 10-0 (7 KOs) in the professional ranks. Like many, Hilley grew up watching Floyd Mayweather Jr., but now he prefers studying the work of Vasyl Lomachenko in the current state of the game.

Hilley, 28, stepped up to the eight-round limit last June and produced a dominant sixth-round corner retirement over the well-experienced Augustin Mauras. Mauras had taken lightweight prospect Matt Remillard and Ty Tomlin the eight-round distance in earlier outings. Hilley counts the victory as his best performance in the professionals ranks. He followed that up with a second round TKO in his most recent outing in February of this year.

Godoy, an Argentine-fighter based out of Miami, has a reputation for going the distance. A hard eight rounds would be good for Hilley’s development. However, Godoy is used to fighting his opponents competitively on the cards and five of his previous bouts have ended in split verdicts.

“My adopted parents Joe and Paula Smith made me box to stay off the streets,” Hilley, the father of one daughter, stated. “[I fight to encourage] the many lives I have impacted in my community using my professional journey. I want international recognition as great warrior.”

Hilley has amassed a lot of great experience in the gym. To date, he’s worked in camps with Floyd Mayweather Sr. and the Money man himself. He’s crossed paths with both Gervonta Davis and Rolly Romero, who will square off on May 28 coincidentally. Ladarius Miller, Yordenis Ugas, and Erislandy Lara have also served as gym-mentors for Hilley in training camps throughout his young career.

“I’m not just a promoter, I am a hired consultant and do more work behind the scenes on other
promotions than on actual Southpaw shows,” stated Southpaw Promotions’ Billy Blea. “Without a doubt, Roger Hilley is one of the best kept secrets in professional boxing. I have seen fighters from around the world, I have been to the big shows at Madison Square Garden, I’ve worked the big shows out West, and Roger can compete at the elite level. Now that we are together, it is my job to get him the opportunity he deserves.”

Also seeing action on the Southpaw Promotions stage are two unbeaten fighters in separate contests. Joshua Villion, of Haitian origin, makes his third appearance as a professional in a middleweight bout scheduled for four rounds. Djibril Diakite from Queens, NY also seeks a third professional victory at middleweight.

Gregory Jones will be making his professional debut at junior middleweight. He fights out of 5 Points Boxing in Cleveland, TN. Originally from New Jersey, Jones now lives and trains in Cleveland. As an added attraction, crowd-pleasing hometown heavyweight, Cleveland Billingsley III will compete in his eleventh bout.
