There was no feeling each other in the opening round in this one. Punches were flying instantly. Gonzalez jabbed. Martinez connected with a left hook. He worked the body. Seconds later a combination scored. Gonzalez opened up and caught Martinez with a pretty uppercut. He clipped Martinez with blows at the bell.

Martinez jabbed and ran into a right in round two. Gonzalez landed a gutshot. He punched some more. And more. Martinez fired back. He was awkward and unpredictable. The more technical Gonzalez was picking him apart. Martinez fired wide hooks in round three. Some of them scored. Gonzalez countered with a sneaky uppercut. Both fighters landed hooks near the end of the stanza.

Gonzalez (51-3, 41 KOs) moved after Martinez in round four. He landed two shots to the body. Martinez,27, scored with a four-punch combination. Gonzalez was accurate with punches. He was scoring with short ripping shots to the body and head. Gonzalez went right back to work in round five. He was consistently getting off first. Martinez loaded up and fired hooks. Gonzalez scored with a right down the pipe.

In round six, Martinez tried to be the fighter to get off first. Gonzalez had unofficially banked four out of the first five rounds. Gonzalez again opened up and landed several headshots. Martinez took them well. Gonzalez continued to tattoo Martinez in round seven. He was systematically beating Martinez up. Gonzalez landed four shots to the jaw. There was no quit in Martinez – Gonzalez was dominating.

Gonzalez pounded on Martinez in round eight. He was mixing up his punches and scoring with most of them. Martinez was eating them and trying to return fire, but alas the few that landed had no effect. Martinez switched back and forth between orthodox and southpaw in round nine. Gonzalez didn’t care. He went back to grinding. Martinez pounded his gloves. Gonzalez pounded him. Gonzalez popped Martinez with a hard right in round 10. Martinez worked the body. Gonzalez was fine with that and returned fire. Martinez threw more heavy punches in round 11. Gonzalez continued to pick him apart. Martinez was being punched from pillar to post.

Somehow, he stayed upright.

Martinez came out winging in the 12th and final round. Gonzalez rolled with the punches and landed his own blows. Martinez fought back, but Gonzalez bossed it.
