Although he dropped Nakathila in round 4 he never seemed close to finishing him in a fight that was one-sided for Stevenson.
Saturday night, live from The Theatre at the Virgin Hotels (Las Vegas), in a battle for the (vacant) WBO interim junior lightweight title, former featherweight champ Shakur Stevenson (16-0, 8 KO’s) scored a UD 12 over Jeremiah Nakathila (21-2, 17 KO’s). Stevenson was in control throughout the whole fight.
Although he dropped Nakathila in round 4 he never seemed close to finishing him in a fight that was one-sided for Stevenson and devoid of any real action or excitement. Stevenson, highly skilled, fights out of a catch and counter, defensive style that doesn’t bode well for taking a run at any Gatti-Ward comparisons.
Scores were 120-107 across the board for New Jersey’s Stevenson. Talk is Jamel Herring next and then exciting warrior Oscar Valdez.
