Pitbull Cruz returns in Las Vegas bout

Popular Mexican Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz will return to the ring against Angel Fierro on the David Benavidez vs David Morrell undercard on February 1 in Las Vegas at the T-Mobile Arena.

Cruz and Fierro will go 10 rounds or fewer at 140 pounds. In the 12-round main event, two-division world champion David Benavidez goes up against undefeated, former amateur star David Morrell.

Benavidez (29-0, 24 KO’s) is putting his WBC light heavyweight belt up for grabs while Morrell, (11-0, 9 KO’s) holds the WBA “Regular” 175-pound belt.

Cruz (26-3-1, 18 KOs) is looking to get back in the win column after a frustrating summer loss to Jose Valenzuela that cost him his WBA 140-pound belt.

Angel Fierro (22-2-2, 17 KOs) of San Diego, is also coming into the fight off a June defeat and is looking to get back in the winner’s circle. Another loss is a big setback for either fighter so they will both be very motivated going into the fight.

Cruz of Mexico is a massively popular fighter known for his all-action, aggressive style in the ring. He turned pro 10 years ago as a teenager and boasts an impressive resume with great performances against Diego Magdalena, Gervonta Davis, Francisco Vargas, Yuriorkis Gamboa, and Rolando Romero, among others.

Against Valenzuela, he struggled with the awkward Renton, Washington fighter’s run-and-hold style. While the fight was close (SD 12 for Valenzuela), and many people felt Cruz did more than enough to keep his belt, it was a frustrating fight for both Cruz and the fans.

MaxBoxing recently caught up with Sean Gibbons, who handles Cruz, and he was quite clear on his thoughts on the Valenzuela fight and what he wants to see next for the likable Cruz.

“His loss in August was very frustrating”, said Gibbons of Las Vegas. “First of all, he landed the only hard, damaging punches in the fight, so I’m still wondering how you can give the fight to Valenzuela”, said a frustrated Gibbons.

What does Gibbons expect from the Pitbull in 2025?

“Isaac likes to be in fights with people that actually are trying to engage, not just run and hold. Fans love him because he is so fun to watch with an all-actions style. I wanna see him in good fights. Sure, we want to get him in a title shot soon and this fight on the 1st of February is step one”, he went on. “A nice win to kick off 2025 and then we’ll look for something big down the line”.
