Manny “PacMan” Pacquiao (60-7-2, 39 KO’s) continues to write another chapter in his Hall of Fame career when he enters the ring on January 19th against former (multiple) world champion Adrien “The Problem” Broner (33-3, 24 KO’s).

For those keeping score at home this will be Pacman’s 70th fight in his 24th year in boxing.

Pacman has been fighting the very best of the best, from flyweight to welterweight, over the last 2 decades. To list the fighters of note he has fought would be an exhaustive list; to simply list the (current or future) Hall of Fame fighters he has tangled with would be extensive.

Plain and simply, he has been an amazing fighter over the last couple of decades and his passion and enthusiasm for the game doesn’t seem to have lessened in the least.

However, as we all know father time is undefeated, and the question arises, what will we see play out on January 19th in Las Vegas?

Broner, at age 29, comes in with youth on his side as he faces Pacquiao who recently turned 40-years of age. They say, ‘age is just a number’, and in the case of the seemingly age-less Pacquiao that may well indeed be true. Broner has the edge in age, but with the superbly conditioned Pacquiao, will it matter?

Pacquiao seemed to have taken a few sips from the fountain of youth when he he stopped former, 2-time world champion Lucas Matthyse last July in impressive fashion. However, one has to wonder if Pacquiao had the right guy in front of him that night in Matthyse who seemed to have lost a step and whose resolve appeared to quickly wane once Pacquiao started to connect.

However, that being said, from all reports Pacquiao has looked as good as ever in camp and seems very determined to prove that the Matthyse fight was not a one-off. In fact, Pacquiao has stated in pre-fight interviews that he would indeed like to stop Broner.

Plain and simply, Pacquiao understands that he has been around a long time and if he wants to stay relevant as a name for future mega-fights (see: mega-payday, Mayweather rematch), he has to win and win impressively. Squeaking by a fighter in a close points win is fine ( a ‘w’ is a ‘w’) but if he looks like he is struggling to keep up with the current crop of champions then fighting on at this stage can appear like a well-paid victory lap.

While at this stage of his career, Pacquiao is certainly taking his career on a fight-by-fight basis, he seems just as determined as he was when he was a young champion looking to cement his legacy.

In a recent interview, speaking from the Wildcard Boxing Club in Los Angeles, Pacquiao made it clear that he is was excited to face Broner and deliver what the fans want - a knockout.

“I am not making a prediction, but my goal is to knockout Adrien Broner”, said Pacquiao.

And, referring to his last fight in which he stopped former champion Lucas Matthyse in impressive fashion, he is certainly looking to deliver on that again in this bout.

“I have too maximize this opportunity”, he said, “the fans love it (a knockout), so why not try for it again?”.

In terms of what he sees next? Manny isn’t looking past January 19th as he knows that Broner is no walk in the park.

“Let me take care of this fight and then I have to worry about who is my opponent next. I have no problem to fight anybody as long as there’s not a problem about negotiation. But my plan is just one at a time. It’s unfair to him that people are thinking that he’s not a serious challenge for me”, he continued. “No, Adrien Broner is a good boxer, he’s a high-caliber boxer. He’s a former champion and he’s the kind of fighter that you cannot underestimate or take him lightly”, he said.

Added MP Promotions matchmaker Sean Gibbons, who has been with Manny throughout camp, “He looks fantastic, he really does. Manny has had a great camp and is very excited to get in the ring on fight night”, he said.

Prediction: Despite Manny’s yearning to not hear the sound of the final bell, I think Broner avoids being stopped with a solid defence but Manny out-hustles him in a close fight; Manny by close points win.
