Bivol reminded all that doubted him how good he is.
Dmitry Bivol had quite a year.
Before he dominated Canelo Alvarez, some were saying the light heavyweight champion was slipping.
Bivol hadn’t stopped an opponent in four years. He was still winning fights,he was undefeated, but many said his bouts lacked drama.
That all changed when he fought Alvarez.
A 5-1 underdog, Bivol won arguably nine rounds. (Perhaps more)
The only real question was how the judges would score the fight.
All three had Bivol winning the fight by 115-113. I’m not sure what fight they were watching.
Bivol towered over Alvarez, but it wasn’t only that he was bigger, he was the better fighter all night long. Some have said for months now they weren’t surprised by the outcome.
I’m not sure they were on fight night, but I heard crickets.
Bivol wins rounds. Plenty of them. He averages 10 out of 12.
Then last month, he cemented his honor as the Maxboxing 2022 Fighter of the Year by yes, dominating, undefeated Gilberto Ramirez.
That one surprised nobody.
Ramirez is good, but Bivol is slick and entrenched with a super technique.
Very, very good. Bivol boxed in his usual efficient way. Ramirez looked confused a step behind.
Bivol reminded all that doubted him of what a superior fighter looks like.
2022 was his year.
