With a ferocious, famous father behind them, are their doors opened that come from their surname? Sure. However, make no mistake, it also comes with a lot of pressure.

Keep an eye on the Vargas brothers

Does that last name ring a bell? It should. The next 3 weeks or so look like a ferocious schedule for the fighting Vargas brothers. The California-born, Las Vegas-residing, undefeated siblings have been impressing since starting to punch for pay. As the sons of father and trainer, “Ferocious” Fernando Vargas, boxing is in their blood.

Dad, Fernando Vargas, was one of the most popular boxers during his time in the ring (1997-2007) that saw him as a world champion at 154 pounds. He faced the likes of Yori Boy Campos, Raul Marquez, Winky Wright, Ike Quartey, Felix Trinidad, Oscar De La Hoya and Shane Mosley, among others. If his boys have even a little bit of their pop in them, they will be fun to watch as they progress.

With a ferocious, famous father behind them, are their doors opened that come from their surname? Sure. However, make no mistake, it also comes with a lot of pressure.

You don’t think every boxer that steps into the ring with them would love to be the first to knock one of them off and put the Vargas name as a victory on their resume? So far, all 3 brothers have handled the attention and pressure well and are improving and impressing each time out. So, what is upcoming for the undefeated trio.

May 13 – Stockton, CA. Amado Vargas. Super featherweight. (6-0, 2 KO’s).

The middle Vargas bro; age 22. Mixes his punches well together not forgetting to attack the body in combinations. Showed excellent gauge of distance in his last fight against tough, St. Louis, Missouri opponent Printice Canada, who took everything he had and hung tough all night. Young and still working on developing a strong jab to initiate ring control, he also doesn’t mind slugging it out on the inside. If he senses an opening, he’ll look to unload; looks like a very strong finisher.

May 20 – Las Vegas, NV. Emiliano Vargas. Lightweight. (4-0, 3 KO’s).

Signed by promotional powerhouse Top Rank Boxing, they like what they see so far from the youngest Vargas who is still only 19 years old. He’s got a big stage to impress on as his next gig is a support bout on the huge Devin Haney-Vasiliy Lomachenko card at the MGM Grand. Last November, in only his 2nd bout, he scored a highlight reel KO against rugged Julio Martinez at Palms Casino in Vegas; stole the show. The fight-ending left hook was set up by a beautiful body shot, just after a hard jab had hit him. Shows a lot of ring maturity, staying calm in the eye of the storm.

June 2. Temecula, CA. Fernando Vargas Jr. Super welterweight. (8-0, 8 KO’s).

The oldest of the brothers at 26, while still developing, has moved to 6 rounders and as his numbers will attest, he has some power. He has stopped all 8 of his opponents so far and sports a fan-friendly, aggressive style from his southpaw stance that sees a fast jab setting up his powerful left that is coming right behind it. Good movement, fast hands, and power.
