Six months ago, Katie Taylor lost to Chantelle Cameron. This time, a primed Taylor got her revenge.
In a rip roarer of a rematch, Katie Taylor became the undisputed super lightweight champion by out punching Chantelle Cameron over 10 exciting rounds at the 3Arena in Dublin, Ireland.
The scores were 95-95, 98-92, and 96-94 for Taylor.
Maxboxing scored the fight 96-94 Taylor. Taylor lost for the first time in the same arena six months ago. This time, the results were different.
“Two-weight world champion sounds very nice,” said Taylor. “The last six months were the longest of my career.”
In round one, Taylor (23-1, 6 KOs) got off first. Cameron (18-1, 8 KOs) stuck out her jab. Taylor fired a combination that scored. Cameron landed a right to the head. Taylor, also the undisputed lightweight champion, moved in and out but ate another right. Taylor fired a right in round two. She landed a check hook.
Cameron was pushing the fight. She fired, but Taylor did better.
Taylor moved to her left and fired a right in round three. She flurried as the sold-out crowd screamed. Cameron scored with a jab – and a body shot. Taylor fought back. Cameron scored with a left hook, but Taylor appeared to nick the round unofficially.
In round four, Taylor scored with a lead right. Cameron, bleeding from a slight cut on her forehead, scored with a right. Taylor fired a combination. Cameron landed a solid body shot. Taylor connected with blows in the last few seconds of the heat. Cameron tried to get off first in round five. Taylor scored with a right. She was busier.
Cameron dug hooks to the midsection in round six. Taylor’s response was fast, accurate hands. Cameron landed an uppercut. Taylor scored with two lefts to the face. Cameron fought back. Taylor came back with a one-two. Close round.
Taylor bounced and moved in round seven. She fired a right and left that scored. The relentless Cameron moved closer. Taylor scored on the inside. Cameron answered back, but it was Taylor who finished the round strong.
In round eight, Cameron walked into another combination. Taylor landed a left. Cameron roughed up Taylor on the inside. Taylor scored with a big right. Cameron did as well. Taylor looked exhausted.
Taylor jabbed in round nine. Cameron was now fighting like her titles were slipping away. Taylor did well. The combination were still coming. And landing.
In the 10th and final round, Cameron came out extra charged. Tylor backed off and fired. Both landed. Cameron was again beat to the punch.
Revenge is sweet.
