Big fight for Torres September 6
By Andrew Rivera
After a 10-month layoff, Albuquerque’s Josh Torres will be back in the ring September 6th.
His opponent is unbeaten Cody Crowley. The bout will be shown on Fox Sports 1.
Torres (22-6, 13 KOs) has already had a couple of big fights postponed due to Covid-19, but stayed in the gym in case the phone rang. The call came last last month. Torres has adjusted to the change in training habits with the pandemic happening worldwide.
"I’ve had two big fights cancelled that I could have already had, it also (Covid-19) limited the amount of sparring you can get.” Torres said. “But training is training and we still need to put in one hundred percent."
Although his work may have been interrupted, Torres received quality sparring from former WBA junior middleweight champion Austin Trout. Motivation has never lacked in Torres, yet he will have even more for this fight as his first trainer Richard Mirabal unexpectedly passed away a few weeks ago.
"He helped me start from the ground up and got me started in boxing, he started me with the basics," said Torres.
Torres is no stranger to fighting on nationwide television. In 2016, he fought former world champion Mike Alvarado.
Alvarado edged Torres over eight exciting rounds. Many disagreed with the decision. Since that fight, Torres has remained humble and kept busy waiting for another big opportunity.
A victory over Crowley could lead to another big opportunity in the near future.
