Unbeaten heavyweight Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller (24-0-1, 20 KOs) will look to pick up his second win in his comeback that started last month when he decisioned veteran Ariel Esteban Bracamonte over ten rounds.

That bout, fought in Bueno Aries, was his first time inside the ring in nearly four years after being hit with suspensions for failing multiple drug tests.

Making up for lost time, the once popular Brooklyn native is looking to kick start his career, polish up his image, and work himself back into the world title picture.

Miller will be back in the ring next Saturday against Derek Cardenas (8-9, 7 KOs) in Murfreesboro, Tn. Cardenas was recently cleared by the Tennessee Athletic Commission to fight. Miller, and the team around him, seemed very excited to get back on the winning track and see him work himself into the spot he did before the suspensions. Miller was slated to face massively popular English star, and heavyweight champion at the time, Anthony Joshua in Madison Square Garden but was removed after a failed drug test. (Contender Andy Ruiz was slotted in on short notice and pulled off the upset win).

Undefeated and American, Miller had built a solid following. Many believed he could defeat Joshua before the suspensions. An impressive 2018 win over aged former world champion Thomas Adamek set him as a high-ranking contender. He is now looking to keep busy before targeting the fights that will put him in line for that world title shot that he was so close to before.

Miller turned pro in the summer of 2009 and was near perfect in his first nine years and 23 outings, the only blemish being a draw with Philly tough guy Joey Dawejko in his fifth bout. He followed his knockout win over Adamek by stopping Bogdan Dinu a month later. Miller and his team are looking to put that time in the rear-view mirror and get back to the title.

“I look forward to getting back in the ring July 23rd,” Miller stated. “The plan is to fight every month, shake off this rust and get back to where I need to be over the next few months."

“Big Baby is back," he added.

“It’s been a very long time, and I’m proud to say that Jarrell has made good use of it over the last two years, said promoter Greg Cohen. “He’s more focused and dedicated than ever and will undoubtedly re-inject some more excitement into the heavyweight division. It’s time to get back to work”, he said.

In his last fight, in 2018, before his time off, Miller weighed in at 237 pounds. For his first fight back last month, he was indeed the “big” baby, tipping the scale at 305 pounds.

Everyone loves a successful comeback story, so, here’s hoping. In truth, Miller has a lot of work, and some convincing, to do.

The next step is July 23rd.
