A long-serving referee for the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC), Reiss has governed bouts all over the world, earning the respect of fighters and fans alike.

Jack Reiss, one of the best and most recognizable referees over the last quarter-century, has decided to retire.
Reiss is a New York native who still sports a great Brooklyn accent. However, after his stint in the military landed him in San Diego, he set up shop in southern California, his home for years.
Jack, a long-married father, has been the 3rd man in the ring for some of the sport’s biggest events over his outstanding career. His stats clock him in at over 1000 bouts and 100+ world title fights.
Reiss showed a calm, measured approach to fights balancing the fine line of letting the fighters decide the outcome while always looking out for the safety of the fighters. A long-serving referee for the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC), Reiss has governed bouts all over the world, earning the respect of fighters and fans alike.
Reiss, a former fire fighter and California real estate agent, also ran seminars at the annual Association of Boxing Commission conferences. His expertise and experience were a valuable learning opportunity for conference attendees.
Reiss, 68, will remain on the commission doing other roles, including judging.
While Reiss, as nice and friendly a guy as you can hope to meet in the sport, will no longer be refereeing, his legacy as an outstanding referee will remain.
Simply one of boxing’s very best. Thank you for a great career, Jack!
