Rest Easy George Foreman
Rest Easy George Foreman
Maxboxing mourns the passing of George Foreman, one of the biggest punchers, and after an improbable comeback, two-time heavyweight champion.

Foreman captured Olympic gold at the 1968 Olympic Games. He turned professional in 1970 and stormed the heavyweight division, eventually stunning Joe Frazier to win the heavyweight title three years later. He quit the ring in 1977.

Foreman’s comeback in 1987 was unexpected. He regained the heavyweight championship by defeating defending champion Michael Mooer in 1994. Foreman was behind on the scorecards when the knockout happened. At 45, he was the oldest heavyweight champion in history.

Said Top Rank Chairman Bob Arum, “George was a great friend to not only myself but to my entire family. We’ve lost a family member and are absolutely devastated."

More to come.
