Now that the welterweight unification fight between Keith Thurman vs. Danny Garcia is all said and done, the middleweight division is front and center. Though some call the welterweight division the glamour division, the middleweight division is the division.

No other division exudes so much mastery of the sweet science as does the middleweight division.

The mythic Harry Greb, The “Man of Steel” Tony Zale, The Ferocity of Jake LaMotta, the perfection of Sugar Ray Robinson, the combination of brute strength and skill of Dick Tiger the enigma that was Carlos Monzon, the concrete chin of the lethal southpaw, Marvelous Marvin Hagler; just to name a few.

Gennady Golovkin, “GGG,” and Daniel Jacobs fight to unify this historic division on March 18 in the historic Madison Square Garden.

Fitting.

GGG may be an undefeated fighter, however he has received his fair share of criticism. The bulk of the criticism stems to what is perceived to be weak competition; as if he controls the rankings.

All GGG is guilty of is fighting top rated fighters in his division, as well as fellow title holder; knocking them all out.

The man has not had to worry about a judge’s scorecard since 2008; in the United States, George W. Bush was still President. Yet some people give GGG little credit because “he never fought anybody”

Conventional thinking would suggest that criticism should be put to a halt with GGG lacing ‘em up against the formidable Jacobs.

Unfortunately, there is nothing conventional when haters hate.

I know some critics personally, who have already gone out of their way to disparage Jacobs; just so they do not have to give GGG credit if he wins. While I will not reveal these names, here is a hint: They think they are God’s gift to boxing.

To disparage Danny Jacobs before he even steps into the ring is to disparage his great story.

Jacobs is a cancer survivor, and a man dedicated to the pugilist profession. He deserves to be dealt a far better hand than being deemed as dead on arrival for this fight, just because you do not want to let go of the GGG hate.

If GGG does knockout Jacobs it is because GGG is a great fighter and not because Jacobs is a bum. If you do not agree with that, why bother watching?

Go watch fly fishing instead.

Jacobs is a highly skilled professional who has legitimate power in both hands; his destruction of Peter Quillan and Sergio Mora is recent evidence of this claim.

GGG vs. Jacobs is an example of boxing at its best. These two highly skilled bombers will represent the ultimate division in boxing well.
