Viktor Postol is Ukraine’s pedigree veteran boxer (41 y.o.) and 2015 WBC 140lbs World Champion, who stripped the precious belt from Argentina’s legend Lucas Matthysse, stopping him in round 11 on the 3rd of October 2015.

His fortunes changed in 2016 and Viktor lost the belt to Omaha’s genius of boxing, Terrence Crawford. However, on Saturday night 25 January 2025, spectators in Kyiv Sports Palace enjoyed a tremendous evening of boxing staged by Faniian Brothers promotion vehicle SpartaBox watching in a co-main event Viktor Postol fighting Argentina’s  Andres Ramon “Canelito” Tejada. Tejada was not shy and shocked Postol with his solid long jabs from both hands in the opening stanza.

Postol, who always lives a healthy life and is a good father of his two kids, though shocked, was cool, proving his alias “Iceman” and managed to stabilize the situation, but he had to spend quite a lot of gas to regain control of the fight.

Yet he showed pretty much no signs of fatigue, and returned after the break between the rounds to show perfect footwork, combined with an active left jab to pepper shorter, however still dangerous kid from Argentina (hailing by the way, from the same province as Lucas Matthysse). When after the fight we had a word with Andres Tejada’s coach about his motivation and preparation for this fight, he confirmed paying back for Matthysse was pretty much the key of his motivation before this challenging trip to war hit Ukraine and the fight with Victor Postol!

Andres Tejada showed a lot of ring generalship and amazing stamina, and although shorter than Postol, happened to land very long jabs. Yet Postol could not let his fellow Ukrainians down in his backyard in downtown Kyiv. His discipline, tremendous experience, bombs in both fists, excellent shape, and strong corner lead by Alexander Polischuk, enabled the Ukrainian legend to win convincingly in the ring in Kyiv Sports Palace! The people gave Viktor Postol a standing ovation after a tremendous UD victory in the fight with dangerous Andres “Canelito” Tejada.

Igor Faniian, the older of the Faniian brothers, is the mastermind of great shows the company is staging in Kyiv. One of his great ideas was creating Veteran’s Ligue of Boxing for the Ukrainian war veterans, heavily wounded and often disabled. Rather than leaving those young (often 22-25 years) men to seek solutions from their pains, solitude, and depression in alcohol or drugs, Faniian trains them for free in a boxing gym, inspiring each of those dozens and hundreds of young men with lost limbs to stay in shape and be the champions of their lives!!

Several veterans with disabilities after a 6 months camp took part in the official veterans’ fights during the Boxing show in the Sports Palace on Saturday, 25 January. Marvelous peace descends on people souls, when you watch tired, but happy veterans hugging after the fight, they feel themselves strong men again, and that’s a truly precious victory!!

SpartaBox fight night blends amateur, veterans and after the undercard, top pro boxing events.

Aram Faniian, Igor’s younger brother, is an amazing young boxing talent, the WBO welterweight Global champion.

It’s a shame very few in Kyiv Sports Palace did know that Aram’s dangerous opponent from Argentina, Nicolas Ezequiel Jara in his previous fight, KOed the dangerous Andres “Canelito” Tejada, who just gave a very competitive fight to Viktor Postol. Otherwise, the beginning of the fight Aram Faniian vs Nicolas Jara would be even more shocking for the audience in Kyiv Sport Palace, as after a tentative 1st round, Aram crushed his thunderous right on Jara, having sent him to the floor three times.

The fight looked close to being over, but the Argentino fighter managed to survive till the round end, and in later rounds showed tremendous discipline in defense, while Faniian looked like resolved to tune down the fire of his aggression and go the distance for the Kyiv boxing lovers, who do not see very often these days of war and crisis much truly exciting international fight cards.

Faniian’s genius matchmaker Vlad Eliseev (reads Yeliseyev) again did a great job, helping Ukrainian boxing fans to see a broader range of international boxing talents, technical skills, and tactical solutions by watching live quality international fights. Needless to say, Ukrainian war veterans were vivid and excited spectators of the main event, life goes on.

In another pro fight in the undercard, Ukraine’s NABA super middle champion Stanyslav Skorokhod quite unexpectedly lost in a 175lbs 8 rounder to a new talented southpaw from Odessa Marat Grigoryan. Many experts agreed Skorokhod was waiting for too long trying to outbox the young slick southpaw and changed tactics to gear up pressure only in round 6, which proved to be much too late.
