Canelo Álvarez and Terence Crawford reportedly weighed in a pound below the 168 super middleweight level today in Las Vegas, NV.

The silly ceremonial weigh-in will be staged tonight. Today’s boxing appears to have no respect for the history of the sport. (Call me a curmudgeon if you must)

Alvarez is favored (slightly) to win.

2025 has been a down year in boxing. A high was heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk stopping Daniel Dubois a couple of months ago. Rematches between Katie Taylor and Armando Serrano and Dimitry Bivol were interesting. Naoya Inoue fights in a few days. David Benavidez continues to impress.

The month of August had some fights, but not any big ones.

Canelo Álvarez versus Terence Crawford is the event/fight of the year.

Alvarez, 35, is a two-time undisputed super middleweight champion. He reclaimed the IBF title earlier this year with a boring victory over William Scull.His skills appear to be eroding after almost 70 fights and twenty years in the ring, but I’m thinking Alvarez will be amped and ready for Crawford.

Crawford,37, is a former lightweight, and junior welterweight and welterweight champion. He captured a 154-pound belt several months ago. Crawford has won all 41 of his fights, 31 by knockout. He’s smart and mean.

I expect a slow burner with the early rounds being a chess match. After - a fight could break out.
