The Border Wars series, in the Rio Grande Valley, always features outstanding up-and-coming talent.
The June weather isn’t the only thing heating up in South Texas this month.
Cavazos Boxing returns to the Payne Arena in Hidalgo, Texas, on June 27.
If past shows are any indication, this one should be another great barn burner.
Long-time Texas promoter Anthony Cavazos has been building fighters and putting on shows in the south Texas area for close to a quarter-century, and he returns to highlight some of Texas’ hottest prospects this month.
As his recent media posts have claimed - “Putting on Wars for 24 Years” - and he’s not wrong.
The Border Wars series, in the Rio Grande Valley, always features outstanding up-and-coming talent. From undefeated prospects, to anticipated pro debuts, to seasoned warriors, Cavazos cards aren’t soft touches for any of the fighters, and the fans love it.
When the first bell goes on a Cavazos fight night card, the action is non-stop.
Chicago-native Cavazos’s home games have been in the Lone Star State, but he is an industry veteran having worked with the likes of Bob Arum’s Top Rank Boxing and Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions, among others.
The card will highlight some of the most exciting regional fighters in Texas, including super middleweight Gus Salazar from McAllen, Edinburg’s junior lightweight Jonathon Segundo, popular undefeated junior welterweight Fabian Diaz, and undefeated super lightweight Rigo Rivera, and rugged Johnny Soto from Mission, to name a few.
As Cavazos said in a recent interview, “I still get excited for boxing, I am still passionate about it”, he said. “I’m a boxing fan first and I want the fans to go away happy”.
Almost a quarter-century of boxing for Texas fight fans.
With great boxing action, Cavazos-style, on a hot June night in Texas, I think it’s safe to say fans will indeed go home happy.
