Terri Moss has been running Atlanta’s premiere boxing gym, the Buckhead Fight Club, for over a decade. It has hosted dozens of professional shows over the years. The popular cards, featuring a host of local, regional, and national talent, have seen the Buckhead Fight Club as one of boxing’s busiest venues.

MaxBoxing recently caught up with Buckhead Fight Club boss Terri Moss to get her thoughts on the current state of the Hot-Atlanta boxing business. Speaking from her home in Athens Georgia, an hour down the road from Atlanta, Moss shared her excitement about her upcoming show at the Buckhead Fight Club on October 19.

Bill Tibbs: Hi Terri, great to catch up.

Terri Moss: Yes, just walked in the door after a busy day.

BT: You have a show coming up on October 19. Still keeping the club busy?

TM: Yes, we have a good show coming up. A good undefeated headliner in the main event and some good prospects on the undercard. We are busy. Not like it was in the past. Thinking back to 2021 I think we did 16 Pro and amateur shows, collegiate shows, a very busy time. But we’ll get in 8-10 shows this year.

BT: That’s great; very active in today’s market. There is still a market for the smaller development level, club shows.

TM: Well, Bill it has been a strange time to be honest. There has been a weird swing in the sport. The club shows just aren’t there anymore. It is a hard sell. Now people are exposed to so much, they have a lot of variety. You have Team Combat League, Slap Fighting, Bare Knuckle Fighting, Kick Boxing, Muay Tai, it just goes on and on. The day of selling the old school club show in boxing is very tough; you have to adapt. I gotta merge and do different style shows. The show coming up we have some different styles of fighting on the show.

BT: There does seem to be a new era in the sport. Competing with celebrity boxers doing exhibitions, etc. never mind all the other combat sports.

TM: It is tough on promoters because they see fighters not wanting to take tough fights, or the best matches. They see them wanting to protect their records. I understand wanting to build a good fighters record to get opportunities down the line, but you can’t have one easy fight after another and still want to get paid good money for easy fights. It’s all about the best fighters going up against the best opponents to make it to the top. Some fighters want to protect their records and be social media stars as much as anything.

BT: How many people can you get into the Buckhead Fight Club for a show?

TM: We can do about 900-950 people.

BT: That’s a good house if it sells.

TM: Yes, it is and we are starting to gets tickets moving now so we are looking forward to a good show.

BT: Tell us about your upcoming card.

TM: We have a real good, undefeated welterweight in the main event. His name is Jessie Fletcher Jr. and he is 8-0 with 8 KO’s. He’s an exciting fighter who is coming up. We have a 5-round kick boxing match and a guy making his pro debut in boxing. Some other undefeated fighters who are up and coming. It should be a great show.

BT: Sounds like a great night of fights and I’m glad to hear the Buckhead is staying busy and keeping fighters in the ring. Best of luck with the upcoming show.

TM: Thanks Bill; appreciate it.
