MaxBoxing caught up with Bilal to get his thoughts on his upcoming bout.
Undefeated (3-0, 1 KO) Bilal Quintyne will step into the ring for the second time in 2022 when he squares off with 21-fight veteran Chukka Willis this Friday night at Centre Stage in Atlanta, Georgia.
It’s busy times for the 6’ 2” 160-pounder who is looking to pick up his second win of the year before he clocks into work again 3 weeks later in Detroit, Michigan.
MaxBoxing caught up with Bilal to get his thoughts on his upcoming bout and to let fight fans get to know the friendly, well-spoken middleweight.
Bill Tibbs: Hi Bilal, thanks for taking a minute to chat.
Bilal Quintyne: No problem, thank you.
BT: You were born in Massachusetts?
BQ: Yes, born in Massachusetts, but have lived most all of my life in Georgia
BT: Tell me a little about your amateur career.
BQ: I had 15 amateur fights. I lost the first two and then knocked out the next 13.
BT: You are fighting a guy Friday with 21 fights, lots of experience. He goes the distance with pretty much everybody. What do you know about your opponent?
BQ: You know, I see him like any other person. He is coming to fight and do his best. I just have to focus on me, not focus on him. I have a job to do, and I am just going to concentrate on doing my job in there Friday.
BT: You are tall for a middleweight. 6’ 2”. How is making weight for you?
BQ: I make weight without a problem; I have fought at one hundred sixty and one hundred fifty-four.
BT: Often, tall, lean guys are good punchers. Would you describe yourself as a puncher?
BQ: I can punch, but I would describe myself as a boxer-puncher. I can box and have good movement. I also like to fight on the inside. I’m comfortable fighting on the inside.
BT: You fight Friday and then three weeks later. You are looking to stay busy. What are your goals and plans for 2023?
BQ: You know I am just concentrating on right now; I’m not looking too far ahead. Boxing, and life, can change or bring you hurdles at any time, so I’m just taking everything a round at a time.
BT: So, I was reading where you pushed an elderly lady, who had a broken wheelchair, all the way home. You are a bit of local hero (laughs).
BQ: (Laughs). Well, they tried to make me out to be a bit of a hero, but I was really doing what I would want anyone to do for my mother or grandmother. I was doing what I thought was right. I’m just a man with a heart for people.
BT: Well, you’re a good man; it was great. Thanks so much for the chat and we’ll talk again down the road. Best of luck on Friday.
BQ: OK, for sure. Thank you.
