Featherweight Angelo Leo wants to make history when he takes on IBF Featherweight Champion Luis Alberto Lopez 30-2.

Leo and Lopez will headline ESPN’s televised card on August 10th in Leo’s hometown of Albuquerque.

If successful, Leo will join Johnny Tapia and Danny Romero as multiple-division champions. Leo held the WBO Super bantamweight title in 2020.

“I want to make history and win another title in another division. Winning, I will be one of three to win multiple titles in different weights.” Stated Leo from an undisclosed area in northern New Mexico.

Leo has been prepping for Lopez and doing high-altitude training. Albuquerque is at 5200 ft elevation, thus Leo is focused on training at an even higher elevation.

“We have been here for almost 6 weeks, just staying under the radar and wanting to focus on Lopez. We felt the higher-up (Altitude) would help and it also allows me to focus only on boxing and nothing else.”

In taking on Lopez at home, Leo is excited about the opportunity to win a title in front of his hometown, and training away from Albuquerque is just what he felt he needed.

“I have been getting slammed with people asking me for tickets and I know there is excitement for this fight. Getting away and training has been great. It’s what we needed to train and just concentrate with no distractions.”

Lopez will be making his 4th title defense of his crown and is no stranger to fighting on his opponent’s home turf. Lopez went to Ireland and halted Micheal Conlan last year with a 5th round stoppage. Leo knows he will have his hands full with Lopez.

“I know he can box a little and then will come forward to try to turn fight into slugfest, we have prepped for him and know what to expect and make the adjustments if needed. “Says Leo. “I also know he hasn’t faced a fighter like me before.”

Leo 24-1, has fast-tracked his career in the last 9 months. His career was stagnant for almost two years. Leo then got the break he needed, sighing with ProBox Promotions. Leo’s been busy, fighting 3 times in 5 months, before he secured a title fight with Lopez.

“ProBox is my promoter. We did sign a 3-fight deal with Top Rank, things have been great since we signed with ProBox.”

The signing has opened doors for Leo, he now has to kick in the biggest door, winning a title at home versus Lopez.
