Now that he has wrapped up his impressive amateur career, he is focused on the pro game.
Training with his father, Bayardo Estrada, since he was a young boy, undefeated flyweight boxer Miguel “Pretty Boy Assassin” Estrada (2-0, 1 KO) has always dreamed of achieving amateur and professional glory in the squared circle.
Born, residing, and fighting out of London, Ontario, Canada, Estrada turned heads when he made the Canadian Youth National Team in 2022-2023, fighting in the 51kg class (112 pounds for our American friends). He then represented Canada at the acclaimed IBA Youth World Championships. Then, to close out 2023, he became an Olympic qualifier finalist in December, bringing home a silver medal.
Now that he has wrapped up his impressive amateur career, he is focused on the pro game and is checking into work at California’s premier fight factory.
Estrada is training under acclaimed trainer Marvin Somodio out of the Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood, California. Estrada headed out to the west coast sun and surf to turn pro and train with boxing’s best.
In his first fight, Estrada beat rugged, undefeated Bagner de Leon Perez by unanimous decision over 4 rounds. Then, in his 2nd bout, he stopped previously unbeaten Mayquel Aguilera in 2 rounds off a vicious body and head attack.
Very impressive is the patience and strong fundamentals that Estrada shows with a foundation of a good jab and an impressive body game. These skills will only improve under Somodio, one of boxing’s best who apprenticed under Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach.
In a recent post, the @boxingdoctor said of Estrada, “Hey boxing fans, get ready for the next big thing, watch out for Miguel Estrada, the Canadian making waves in Los Angeles. The former national team member is training at the famed Wild Card Boxing Club in Los Angeles with coach Marvin Somodio. He’s already sparring with excellent fighters like Steven Navarro and Andy Dominguez. Miguel Estrada is definitely one to watch”, he said.
Indeed, he is.
Miguel is eager to get back in the ring and show he is a young prospect to keep an eye on.
