A true gentleman.

The boxing world was saddened by the announcement of the recent passing of California boxing promoter, Ken Thompson, at age 85.
A recent press announcement from his company, Thompson Boxing Promotions, described their founder as “A beloved boxing promoter who dedicated 23 years of his life to promoting the sport in Southern California. Throughout his career, Kenny was known for his passion, dedication, and unwavering commitment to the sport of boxing, and his fighters”.
The statement also went on to highlight his championship qualities outside of boxing, saying, “Kenny was dedicated to giving back to the community. He was a strong supporter of local charities and was always looking for ways to help those in need. He will be remembered for his kindness, his generosity, and his unwavering commitment to making the world a better place”.
Serving up some of the best boxing you will see in southern California, Thompson Boxing has been going strong for 23 years after launching in the spring of 2000. President and owner Ken Thompson, along with Vice president and matchmaker Alex Camponovo, established Thompson Boxing as an outstanding promotional company. They always looked to deliver the best fights for their legion of loyal fans that have helped to see Thompson shows sell out regularly. A staple of the Southern California fight scene, Thompson Boxing has been a launching pad for many world-class fighters and champions.
Starting off doing 3-4 shows per year, Thompson Boxing now does approximately 12-14 shows per year but works with other promotions for their fighters so they can be involved with up to 30 shows over 12 months. Thompson has also set up shop all over Southern California hosting shows in Salinas, San Diego, and Sacramento, among others. The company has also promoted some of boxing’s best fighters turning out numerous contenders and world champions like Timothy Bradley, Danny Roman, and Josesito Lopez, to name but a few. A dedication to delivering quality shows and highlighting some of boxing’s most exciting fighters on a local, regional, and world-class level allowed Thompson to establish his firm as a premiere promotional company.
Smaller shows on the club level are the lifeblood of boxing and allow a place for fledging contenders to ply their trade as they develop. It also provides outstanding boxing for local and regional fight fans to get to see the future stars of the sport up close and live. The impact and importance of promoters like Thompson, and what they give to the sport, cannot be overstated.
On behalf of the entire MaxBoxing staff, our deepest condolences go out to the Thompson family.
Ken Thompson – a true champion of the sport.
Rest in peace.
