Former WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker stopped tough Shawndell Williams in round five at The Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Tx. Saturday night.

The time 2:40 seconds into round five.

Parker,28, with a weight advantage of 37 pounds, started fast. He popped five hard jabs at his opponent and later, combinations. A few of the blows landed.

Williams,39, fired right hands and a few bodyshots. A Parker left hook buzzed Williams at the bell. Williams did some good work on the inside in round two. Parker kept winging heavy shots. A chopping right landed, but Williams, from Harvey, Ill, absorbed it well.

Parker, a native of Auckland, New Zealand, who fights out of Las Vegas, NV, upped the ante in round three. He stopped Williams in his tracks with a short right. Williams was showing a good chin so Parker (27-2, 21 KOs) landed a double hook to the belly. The belly shot set up a huge right that sent Williams sideways and on his trunks. He beat the 10 count and looked OK as he walked back to his corner.

Williams (13-3, 12 KOs) was looking for Parker’s right in round four—so the big heavyweight connected with three left hooks. Williams landed an uppercut and right at the end of the stanza.Parker was bleeding from a cut on the side of his left eye, courtesy of Williams check hook.

Parker connected with a huge right in round five. Seconds later a wicked three-punch combination sent Williams through the ropes. Williams beat the count, but was obviously hurt. The referee waved off the fight.

“A win is a win,” said Parker. “I didn’t show my boxing ability. I got excited and wanted to smash him.”

Yes, he did.
