Only time will tell

Undoubtedly, the match that sells the majority of tickets in the arena should be the main event. Despite little boxing experience and it being their pro debut, KSI vs. Logan Paul was Matchroom Boxing’s main event at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA.

The fight brought a different audience to the sport and certainly increased subscribers for DAZN. In order to keep the additional subscribers that purchased the app for the novelty fight, future celebrity battles will likely need to ensue.

Youngsters were inspired by the fight. Watching two internet stars that make silly videos fight in front of a full arena made an impression that more is possible than one would think. Eddie Hearn mentioned that the main event did more for DAZN than Anthony Joshua vs. Andy Ruiz.

So, a pro debut between two YouTubers helped a boxing promoter more than did one of the most memorable heavyweight title bouts in the past decade? This pro debut was the most watched fight on DAZN since its launch.

KSI and Paul showed that there is a market for entertainment superstars in the boxing world. We could potentially see many celebrities square off in the ring for fans’ entertainment, while typical professional boxers will increasingly struggle for marquee opportunities.

Other non-boxing stars want to achieve the same acclaim and attention KSI and Logan Paul earned. Since their fight wasn’t a farce and was a relative success, young fans of YouTubers will be enticed to see similar unorthodox match-ups in the future. A slippery slope may have erupted.

A minute percentage of pro-boxers receive handsome rewards for the fruits of their labor. For the most part, boxing is a sport where the combatants are paid very little, while they put their health and potentially their lives on the line. Such fighters struggle to receive enough dates to fight, and are reasonably worried about celebrities getting broadcast slots.

Famous people are wealthy whether or not they fight in front of millions. On the other hand, fighting is the only outlet for a strong majority of pro-boxers to make a living and support their family. Just as Donald J. Trump flipped the political landscape, KSI vs. Logan Paul may have done the exact same thing for the boxing business.
