The Charlo brothers will headline Showtime dual-main-event pay-per-view telecast on September 26 from the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, CT. Coverage begins at 7pmET/4pmPT. There will be two separate 3-bout cards, with a 30-minute break in between.

The first main event will feature Jermall Charlo (30-0, 22KOs) vs. Sergey Derevyanchenko (13-2, 10KOs) for the WBC middleweight world title. The final fight of the night, and second main event presents Jermell Charlo (33-1, 17KOs) vs. Jeison Rosario (20-1-1, 14KOs) for the WBC/IBF/WBA light-middleweight world titles.

In total, there will be six fights, and the pay-per-view price is $74.95. Showtime is billing the evening as two pay-per-views for one price.

Fighters, broadcast networks, and promoters no longer have the luxury of generating gate revenue, so the top fighters will most likely only face top opposition if the match can be on pay-per-view. Both main events are compelling, and it will be the first time that any of the main event fighters have been on pay-per-view.

This factor makes it a complete mystery regarding how many buys will be generated. Showtime executive Stephen Espinoza boasted that this extravaganza might be the most stacked night of action that he has been a part of with network. In both main-event fights, there is a genuine possibility that either Charlo brother could lose.

Sergey Derevyanchenko lost close decisions to Daniel Jacobs and most recently, Gennady Golovkin. Some respectable boxing minds even think that he should have won either fight. He will be by far the most difficult opponent at 160 that Jermall has faced. Derevyanchenko likes to fight in close quarters and performs with high intensity for all 12 rounds. He doesn’t mind getting cut and bruised, and never fails to give his all.

Charlo’s athleticism and overall body of work make him the favorite. He is a skilled counter puncher and has considerable power. Derevyanchenko has a solid chin, as he withstood the power of Jacobs and Golovkin. This is an interesting bout. Neither fighter will likely overwhelm the other, and they both fight aggressively.

Jeison Rosario shocked the boxing world last year when he wrecked Julian Williams homecoming by knocking out the former unified champion in Philadelphia. Rosario has an abundance of power just like his opponent, Jermell Charlo.

Like Rosario, Jermell is coming off a knockout victory. He stopped Tony Harrison, avenging his defeat in a rematch last December. Jermell and Rosario fight aggressively and fight on their front foot. Jermell has more experience at the championship level, and nobody foresaw Rosario knocking out Williams and earning the opportunity to face Jermell for three world championship belts.

Rosario’s knockout win put the boxing public on notice that he’s talented. Jermell will certainly be more wary than Williams regarding Rosario’s punching ability. Despite the power, Rosario tends to get hit easily. Jermell is good at placing his punches and noticing opportunities. Both men will throw plenty of power punches, as they aim for a knockout win.

The September 26 Showtime PPV card will be the first major boxing telecast since the coronavirus derailed the boxing business. The two-card pay-per-view will be an indication of the Charlo twins’ popularity. A win for either will be respected, as they face stiff competition in their next fight. Derevyanchenko and Rosario have the special opportunity to play spoiler, and to make a name for themselves before a pay-per-view audience
