Daniel Dubois inspired by his sister: Notes on a press conference

Danny Flexen with his observations from yesterday’s Daniel Dubois vs Ebenezer Tetteh press conference

You can of course watch all the interviews from the Daniel Dubois vs Ebenezer Tetteh press conference on our YouTube channel, plus the presser itself, but here are some key takeaways ahead of Friday’s show at the Royal Albert Hall.

It’s a family affair
Daniel Dubois only truly came alive yesterday when talking about his sister Caroline and her outstanding achievements. She is an undefeated junior amateur with World and European honours to her name, still hoping to make a late run at Tokyo 2020. Daniel, who can seem bored and rehearsed in front of the camera, lit up when discussing Caroline, a ’legend’ of the future and someone who ’inspires him’ every day.

Announcement of announcements
Dominic Ingle is clearly a man at the centre of things but was apparently not ’allowed’ to share most of his intel with Seconds Out. Billy Joe Saunders’ WBO title challenger for the KSI vs Logan Paul show should be announced this week, Dom says, as should the return date and location for Kell Brook. No early hints were on the menu, however. One amusing moment came when Ingle referred to the ’transformation’ in Willy Hutchinson’s body since joining his gym. I cringed inwardly at the inevitable YouTube comments.

Warren riding a wave
Frank Warren is positively buoyant and, unlike in recent times, it does not appear contrived. In our 15-minute chat, he did not mention Eddie Hearn or Matchroom once (neither did I) and appeared optimistic about the future of his own group. Given Frank has a stake in Tyson Fury and - perhaps more importantly - he was joined on the top table at BT Studios by two fighters in Dubois and Archie Sharp who were recently shortlisted for the prestigious Young Boxer of the Year award, that confidence is well placed.

Declan Geraghty is... Irish
Yes Dublin’s own Declan Geraghty, with the accent to match, is Irish. Who’d have thunk it? Catch yourself on? Apparently Frank Warren momentarily forgot, however, making Sharp’s opponent an honorary ’Brit’ in a throwaway comment. Geraghty was quick to correct him - and Warren equally swift in apologising - but the charismatic ’Deco’ was the highlight of an otherwise monochrome event. He is not coming to lay down, that’s fo sho.
