Boxing and poker – maybe a start on something new?

Even though both sports are known for intense action and rough characters, boxing and poker aren’t usually combined. This didn’t stop Gus Hansen (known as one of the biggest full tilt poker names)and Danish poker pro Theo Jorgensen from duking it out. Both know as skilled poker players in both the online poker and live tournament circuit, did quite well as shown in the video.

Alvarez and Angulo to Go “TOE TO TOE”

By Bill Tibbs (Photo © Tom Casino / SHOWTIME): Tonight, Mexican superstar Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, 42-1-1 (30), will make his first appearance of 2014. It will also be his first fight since his only career loss (to reigning pound-for-pound king Floyd “Money” Mayweather) back in September of 2013. El Perro Finally Gets His Wish

By Gabriel Montoya (Photo © German Villasenor, MaxBoxing): At age 31 but with only 25 fights on his odometer, Mexicali-born junior middleweight contender Alfredo “El Perro” Angulo is both young and old in the sport of boxing. We last saw him in the ring last June against Erislandy Lara and by all accounts, he was winning, having dropped his opponent twice for the first knockdowns of the Cuban fighter’s career. But a late eye injury forced Angulo to turn his back to Lara... El Perro Finally Gets His Wish

Don’t Crown Him Just Yet…

By Steve Kim: What was supposed to be the coronation of Vasyl Lomachenko this past weekend at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas instead became a harsh lesson - both in and out of the ring - administered by Orlando Salido, who won by any means necessary. The crafty veteran from Cuidad Obregon has been described before as a hard man but it was more than just toughness that carried him through this night. He used all his veteran guile and savvy to... Chavez Defeats Vera In Rematch

(Photo © Chris Farina / Top Rank): Mexican boxer Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. scored a unanimous 12 round points win over American Bryan Vera in a super middleweight rematch at the Alamodome,in San Antonio, Texas on Saturday night and went some way to restoring his reputation following his controversial win last time. Salido, the Sacrificial Lamb?

By Steve Kim (Photo © Chris Farina / Top Rank): By virtue of having the WBO featherweight belt (which is supposedly a worthless strap to the particularly quixotic members of the boxing media), Orlando Salido with his 12 professional losses, was hand-selected by Vasyl Lomachenko and his team as their dance partner in just their second official pro fight as they attempt to win a world title in record setting fashion. ’Siri’ is by no means a great fighter, the only way he’ll get Salido, the Sacrificial Lamb?

Vera Still Has Doubts

By Steve Kim ((Photo © Chris Farina / Top Rank): The last time Bryan Vera fought Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., it was originally designated a super middleweight contest. As we all know, a specially created weight was ultimately created at 173 pounds for the particularly enabled Chavez. As they head into their rematch at the Alamodome on Saturday night in San Antonio, once again, this fight’s contracted weight limit is 168 pounds. But Vera has his doubts that his opponent will tip... Vera Still Has Doubts

Do We Believe Chavez Now?

By Steve Kim (Photo © Chris Farina / Top Rank): This weekend, HBO gets back into the boxing business as it broadcasts the rematch between Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Bryan Vera from the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. The last time they fought on September 28th, 2013, Vera seemed to outwork and outhustle the son of “J.C. Superstar” over 10 rounds. Yet as the scorecards were read, the trio of Gwen Adair, Marty Denkin and Carla Caiz, rendered a “business” decision in favor of Chavez... Do We Believe Chavez Now?

No Khan Do?

By Steve Kim (Image made by © Chee, MaxBoxing.com): Throughout the last few weeks and months, I’ve been asked when Floyd Mayweather (scheduled to go on May 3rd) will be making his official announcement regarding just exactly who he’d be facing in his next bout. Well, truth be told, Floyd and I really don’t talk all that much and he really doesn’t confide in such matters to me. So just like everybody else, I’ll find out when you do.
