Boxing and poker – maybe a start on something new?

Even though both sports are known for intense action and rough characters, boxing and poker aren’t usually combined. This didn’t stop Gus Hansen (known as one of the biggest full tilt poker names)and Danish poker pro Theo Jorgensen from duking it out. Both know as skilled poker players in both the online poker and live tournament circuit, did quite well as shown in the video.

Moving Forward

By Steve Kim (Graphic by icheehuahua, MaxBoxing): Now that the dust has settled from this past weekend, when Floyd Mayweather easily dispatched Robert Guerrero over 12 rounds, the question is just when and who does “Money” face next? After signing his groundbreaking, six-fight, 30-month deal with Showtime, he made it very clear that he absolutely intended to fulfill this contract. At the post-fight press conference on Saturday night, the victorious Mayweather mentioned some discomfort in his Moving Forward

Azad Championship Report - One Down, Five to Go

By Gabriel Montoya (Photo © German Villasenor): Boasting an “All Access” reality series, two “documentaries,” media workout clips, conference calls, guest appearances on crossover platforms and ultimately a fight, the media tidal wave “May Day: Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr. vs. Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero” was a sight to behold. The fight itself was more an exhibition of the reasons why Mayweather is known as the most gifted and skilled boxer of the modern era. Azad Championship Report - Still on the “Money” at 36

By Steve Kim (Photo © German Villasenor, MaxBoxing): Robert Guerrero is a pretty good professional prizefighter. But it will take someone of much higher caliber to topple Floyd Mayweather, even at age 36, who on Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in front of nearly 16,000 patrons, easily outboxed “The Ghost” over 12 rounds. The three scorecards that read 117-111 across the board didn’t fully speak to the dominance exhibited by Mayweather. It capped off a good night of action Azad Championship Report - Still on the “Money” at 36

Azad Championship Report - The road to Mayweather vs. Guerrero

By John J. Raspanti; The life of the traveling boxing writer can be a hodgepodge of adventure, excitement and sadly, boredom. Meet me at the crossroads: Gabriel Rosado vs. J’Leon Love

By John J. Raspanti (Photo © Esther Lin / SHOWTIME: When last seen in the ring almost four months ago, Gabriel Rosado was a battered and bloody mess. Cuts around his left eye had rendered him virtually blind. His nose was disfigured and gushing blood. Rosado, who usually fights in the junior middleweight division, had moved up in weight to challenge reigning WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin. Rosado (21-6, 13 KOs ) was confident. He figured he could outbox the slower Golovkin. Some... Meet me at the crossroads: Gabriel Rosado vs. J’Leon Love

Santa Cruz Returns, Rested and Rejuvenated

By Steve Kim (Photo © German Villasenor): On December 15th, Leo Santa Cruz put on a late-finishing kick to defeat the pesky Alberto Guevara at the Los Angeles Sports Arena over 12 rounds. It put a capper on a 2012 where Santa Cruz performed five times and went from a relatively unknown prospect to a world champion who built a fan following for his active, hard-hitting style. But on this early afternoon, for the most part, Santa Cruz looked like a fatigued fighter. Known for his impressive work Santa Cruz Returns, Rested and Rejuvenated
