Boxing and poker – maybe a start on something new?

Even though both sports are known for intense action and rough characters, boxing and poker aren’t usually combined. This didn’t stop Gus Hansen (known as one of the biggest full tilt poker names)and Danish poker pro Theo Jorgensen from duking it out. Both know as skilled poker players in both the online poker and live tournament circuit, did quite well as shown in the video.

Why Hopkins is fighting Kovalev

Why Hopkins is fighting Kovalev

By Vikram Birring (Image by icheehuahua, MaxBoxing): Many years ago, Bernard Hopkins was an afterthought in boxing at the championship level. He lost two close decisions to Jermain Taylor, in which he saved his energy until the final rounds and mounted furious rallies, but gave up too many early ones to win on the scorecards. He claimed that the weight hindered his energy amount, not his age; at the time he was forty, ancient in boxing terms. So he moved up to 175 pounds, to face... Why Hopkins is fighting Kovalev

Lowlights and highlights at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn

By John J. Raspanti (Photo © Rich Kane / Hogan Photos): There was nothing beautiful about what happened to Rod Salka last Saturday night when he faced undefeated junior welterweight champion Danny Garcia at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. At the weigh-in a few days before the bout, Salka, shorter by a few inches, eyed Garcia like you would a big brother. Big brothers often beat the crud out of their little brothers... Tahdooahnippah: “I am going to knock Sneed out!”

By Benny Henderson Jr.: Nothing makes fights more interesting than the two combatants who are about to wage war disliking one another before the go round. Especially when the two have a rivalry going. So come August 23rd, at Remington Park in Oklahoma City, OK, fists will fly when George “Comanche Boy” Tahdooahnippah 33-1-2 (24 KO’s) takes on friend turned foe, Tracy Sneed 27-2 (21 KO’s) in a scheduled eight round middleweight match-up. But, to add a little flavor to this fight... Tahdooahnippah: “I am going to knock Sneed out!”

Charles Maps The Road Back For Chisora

Interview by Mark Butcher: After the initial, crushing disappointment, Dereck Chisora’s trainer Don Charles is in a philosophical mood following his fighter’s recent withdrawal from the eagerly-anticipated rematch with Tyson Fury and already mapping the Londoner’s road back. The all-British encounter had world title implications with the grudge match doubling as a final eliminator for Wladimir Klitschko’s WBO heavyweight crown. But the July 26th bout fell through when Chisora, in peak condition. Charles Maps The Road Back For Chisora

Did knockdown wake Kovalev up?

By John J. Raspanti (Photo © Rich Graessle / Main Events): After her undefeated fighter, Sergey Kovalev, hit the canvas Saturday night in Atlantic City, NJ, veteran promoter Kathy Duva said she saw her life flash before her eyes. The Main Events’ CEO expected WBO light heavyweight champion Kovalev to demolish his opponent, Blake Caperello, with relative ease at the Revel Casino. Instead, Duva’s "million dollar baby" was floored by his underdog opponent... Did knockdown wake Kovalev up?

On the Move: SecondsOut World Rankings 8/3/14

By Derek Bonnett: Sometimes expectations are right on the money. In the case of this week’s bouts featuring ranked fighters in action, we pretty much got what we expected. However, sometimes the expectations fight fans put on a particular bout are way too high and leave us all a little disappointed and deflated. Such was the case of the welterweight bout between Brandon Rios and Diego Chaves. From the moment it was signed, Fight of the Year implications became rampant. I even listed the bout in On the Move: SecondsOut World Rankings 8/3/14

Martyniouk back in the ring for the first time in 2014

By John J. Raspanti:Though victorious in 13 of his 14 professional fights, Stan “The Man” Martyniouk’s boxing career can be summarized in one word--frustration. Martyniouk was last seen in the squared circle handling tough David Rodelo over eight competitive rounds. The victory was important to Martyniouk and his trainer, Virgil Hunter. They both figured the Sacramento native, who was in born in Talinn, Estonia, twenty-nine years ago, would be back in the ring within months... Martyniouk back in the ring for the first time in 2014

Mauricio Herrera: "I am El Maestro"

By Derek Bonnett: Persistence can carry a fighter a long way. That, and a pretty damn good supply of underrated talent. For junior welterweight Mauricio Herrera, opportunity and just results in the boxing world have never come easy. Golovkin’s Dilemma

By Matthew Hurley: With all the lunacy that goes on in boxing it’s always refreshing when a brilliant talent comes along. It’s even better when that fighter is a complete professional and a good guy to boot. Middleweight titlist Gennady Golovkin, or GGG as his fans call him, is turning into something special. A fighter who loves to perform, who pines for the big fight against anyone willing to step in the ring with him and who smiles like a young kid who can’t believe how great everything is Golovkin’s Dilemma

Golovkin drops the hammer

By John J. Raspanti: Prior to Gennady Golovkin’s three-round destruction of Daniel Geale, HBO commentator Max Kellerman remarked that he’s constantly asked if there’s any other fighter in boxing history who reminds him of the Kazakhstani bomber. His answer was surprising. In the past, Golovkin’s style has been compared to Hall of Fame inductee Julio Cesar Chavez, Sr. But Kellerman went back in history to the boxer who dominated his division and held the most prized... Johnny Gant and The Atlanta Art of Boxing Center

Golovkin dispatches Geale: Full Report

By Jason Gonzalez: Manhattan, NY - Coming into Saturday night’s showdown, Australia’s Daniel Geale appeared to be Gennady Golovkin’s stiffest foe, or so it seemed to be on paper.
