Background: Saturday, January 27, 2018- Forum in Inglewood, California HBO 10:20 p.m. ET/PT it’s Lucas “The Machine” Matthysse vs. Tewa Kiram for a secondary belt.

Don’t be fooled, this isn’t a real championship fight. However, it could be a very good fight. You could watch instead, the NBA where players now run 7-8 steps without a care- or a dribble. The NFL? The Super Bowl is next Sunday. An explosion of fists? Thought so.

Not long ago, Lucas Matthysse was a card-carrying badass everyone was onboard with. From ‘expert’ pundits to networks. Then he lost to Danny Garcia, a case of atrocious corner-work and poor scouting by Matthysse’s people. A. They should have anticipated rough tactics. B. They should have told Lucas to retaliate.

Matthysse’s time came and went and he’s never been the same. A KO at the hands of skillful but light-hitting Ukrainian, Viktor Postol and it seemed that the Argentine had seen better days.

Tewa Kiram is little known even to International boxing nuts, except in Thailand. How/why this match was made is known only to the gods and the ear of Golden Boy Promotions. But- it’s here and Kiram appears to me a very live dog.

Fighter’s Scorecards: (Speed, Power, Defense, Reach, Age, Stamina, Experience)

Lucas Matthysse: B B+ B B-B B+C- (Average of all) B

Tewa Kiram: B B B B B B B (Average of all) B

I assigned Kiram all ‘B’s’ as little is known about his measurements, etc. Best I can do in this instance.

Reality Check: In his relatively brief "hot" period, Matthysse claimed he had no real interests outside boxing which I believe and sort of applaud. It’s that demanding a game. These days, he’s a part-time gaucho, a South-American cowboy he says, sort of, in the Argentine.

This tells me he sees the checkered flag to his career even as he says (they all do) he’s entering the best chapter. With the likes of Bud Crawford and Spence who would – and I’m a confirmed Machine Man, beat the brakes off Matthysse? What can he really hope to accomplish at a higher weight when he was never a champion at a lower?

Kiram is one of the taller people in Thailand (he says so) and appears to have a long reach, too. He evidences strong fundamentals and quickness.

Exactly the kinds of things that could make Matthysse’s Final Career Chapter a short one. But – we know little about how Kiram’s weak competition translates to the big leagues, of which Matthysse is still a part.

Personal: Covered before for Matthysse, unknown for Kiram.

Fight and Prediction: I prophesize an entertaining bout with big shots thrown and eaten, by both. At the end, I see Matthysse eking out a decision with a guy called "Father Time" advising him afterwards that the ranch in South America is a good place to finish the rest of his life.

Matthysse UD 12, Kiram.
