Now it’s three.

IBF and WBA world champion Katie Taylor used speed and accuracy to add a third world title to her collection by stopping game WBO titleholder Rose Volante in round nine at Liacouras Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Taylor laid the foundation for her stoppage victory in the opening stanza. Volante came out aggressively, firing hooks but Taylor, using her world class footwork and hand speed, floored Volante with a short right hand. Volante got up with a surprised look on her face. Taylor tried to end things in early in round two. She stayed in the pocket and traded with the Brazilian fighter, peppering her with shots. Volante fought back and landed a clean right to the head.

In rounds three and four, Taylor, from Bray, Ireland, bounced and fired jabs. She jumped inside with lead rights and skipped away. Volante pursued her but couldn’t land. She was trying to counter the much quicker Taylor-who fired a five-punch combination to the body and head.

The pattern continued in round five. Taylor,32, moved in and out and punched. A number of her shots landed. Volanre connected with a right that had no effect. Taylor landed her own right that seemed to stun Volante. A bodyshot also bothered Volante. Volante,36, was gassed and tired but made it to the bell.

Volante looked bloody, discouraged and tired as she sat in her corner waiting for round six to begin. But there was no quit in her. Taylor, who won gold at the 2012 Olympics, went right back to work. Another right landed. Volante was hanging in but taking punishment.

The gutsy Volante tried to make something happen in round seven. She landed a good bodyshot. Taylor fought back with quick hands. A counter right and crashed off Volante’s jaw. In round eight, Taylor flashed more stinging combinations. Volante wobbled and looked confused.

Referee Benjy Esteves appeared ready to stop the fight.

That happened in round nine. Taylor tattooed Volante with more punches to the head and body. After an accidental class of heads, Esteves waved the fight off. The stoppage was a good one as Taylor was landing at will.

Time was 1:40 seconds.

Taylor is now 13-0 with six knockouts. She could face WBC champion Delfine Persoon next.

“Now we can start talking about that fight with Persoon,” said Taylor. “She has the WBC titie, I have the other three. We have to make that fight next.”
