Ask Gerry Cooney – September 25th, 2015

Compiled by Allan Scotto

Hey, fans! Welcome to “Ask Gerry Cooney,” where you get to ask former heavyweight contender “Gentleman” Gerry Cooney any boxing-related question you’d like. Your questions for Gerry’s review will be featured at every week.

Each week, Gerry will answer as many of your questions as he can on the Sirius XM radio show “Friday Night at The Fights,” which Gerry co-hosts with Randy “The Commish” Gordon, former Chairman of the New York State Athletic Commission.

The show airs every Friday on Sirius / XM Rush Zone Channel 93 from 6-8 p.m., Eastern Standard Time.

Please submit your questions to:

Our first question comes from Jimmy G. who asks:

Gerry, one of the upcoming fights is Gennady Golovkin against David Lemieux. I don’t see Lemieux having much of a chance against GGG. How do you see this one going?

Our next question comes from Paul K. who asks:

Gerry, lots of hoop-di-la going on between Vladimir Klitscho and Tyson Fury. So much so that Fury has stated that he will never box again if he doesn’t beat Vladimir. So, do you think Fury has a shot and do you think he’ll quit if he loses?

And Gerry answered the following questions on last week’s show.

Our first question came from Bobby D. who asked:

Gerry, Timothy Bradley recently brought Teddy Atlas on as his trainer. Atlas, as we all know can be a little rough around the edges, so in your opinion, does this help or hurt Bradley?

Gerry feels that Atlas has to make Bradley understand that he has to try and avoid getting drawn into slugfests and that he should stick to boxing, which is his forte’.

Our next question came from John F. who asked:

Gerry, Manny Pacquiao recently stated that his shoulder was healed by swimming in salt water. Do you buy that and do you believe that his shoulder was really injured?

Gerry feels that during the Mayweather fight, Pacquiao was throwing his punches with conviction, not like a person with a torn rotator cuff. He does not think the salt water had anything to do with healing, but does believe that the exercise associated with swimming may have helped.
