Ask Gerry Cooney – August 31, 2015

Compiled by Allan Scotto

Hey, fans! Welcome to “Ask Gerry Cooney,” where you get to ask former heavyweight contender “Gentleman” Gerry Cooney any boxing-related question you’d like. Your questions for Gerry’s review will be featured at Maxboxing.com every week.

Each week, Gerry will answer as many of your questions as he can on the Sirius XM radio show “Friday Night at The Fights,” which Gerry co-hosts with Randy “The Commish” Gordon, former Chairman of the New York State Athletic Commission.

The show airs every Friday on Sirius/XM Rush Zone Channel 93 from 6-8 p.m., Eastern Standard Time.

Please submit your questions to: askgerrycooney@aol.com

Our first question comes from Henry G. who asks:

Gerry, I’ve been following the rise of another Long Island native, Cletus “The Hebrew Hammer” Seldin who looks to me like he may be an upcoming star. Have you seen him fight and if so what do you think of him?

And Gerry answered the following questions on last week’s show.

Our first question came from Russell T. who asked:

Gerry, I’ve always been fascinated at how two men, who seem to be bitter enemies when they meet in the ring, often end up being the best of friends afterwards. How does that happen?

Gerry explained that fighters will usually come out of a fight with a mutual respect for each other for life.

Our next question came from Timmy T. who asked:

Gerry, I know that you were a stable mate of Howard Davis Jr., who we all now know is battling lung cancer. I’ve always been a big fan of his. Do you have any inside info on how he’s doing?

Gerry said that Howard is, at this time very sick with Stage 4 lung cancer, but is fighting hard.
