“Boxing looks like fun,” said five-year-old Avery Johnson after reading the recently published illustrated children’s book, B is for Boxing written by former professional fighter Dimitry Salita, legendary Hall of Fame publicist Bill Caplan, and Dmitry’s brother Michael.
The book reads like a classic for kids. It uses the alphabet and illustrations to teach boxing basics in a fun and informative way.
"As a boxer and a father, I see this book as a great way to transmit the boxing vocabulary to the kids through this educational pictorial while teaching them to read,” said co-author Dimitry Salita who turned to promoting after his fighting days ended.
The text is recommended for children ages,3,4 and 5. I tested out this suggestion one day by showing the book to Johnson, age 5, and three-year-old Phoenix Moore.
Both tiny tykes enjoyed themselves immensely.
“I wanna do boxing when I get big,” said Moore with a smile.
Prominent boxers featured in the book are Muhammad Ali, Julio Cesar Chavez Sr, Roberto Duran, "Big" George Foreman, Gennady Golovkin, The Klitschko brothers, and Marvelous Marvin Hagler.
Illlustrator Yelena Stekachova captures many of these boxing greats in their most important bouts.
“I liked the pictures, “ Johnson said with a grin.
“You have to be brave to box,” added Moore.
B is for Boxing is a great way for aficionados to introduce their kids to the sweet science.
