By Ron Valderrama at ringside: Super featherweight sensation Oscar Valdez (17-0, 15 KOs), battled Ernie Sanchez (15-7, 6 KOs) this past Saturday night as the main event in a scheduled ten round bout from the Tucson Arena in Tucson, Arizona.

The featured bout was presented by Top Rank Boxing in association with Iron Boy Promotions, and televised on Unimas’ "Solo Boxeo Tacate." Valdez wasted no time mounting points early, just about every punch Valdez threw in the first two rounds landed on Sanchez with deadly precision. The speed and quickness of Valdez was simply amazing to watch as the always moving Valdez mixed it up with powerful jabs and combinations. Sanchez was quickly paying the price early, taking on a constant onslaught of blistering blows thrown by Valdez. The action continued in round three, when Valdez delivered a body shot on Sanchez that caught his attention and kept him in a defensive mode, the punch could be heard by the media in press row. It wouldn’t be long before Valdez could see an opening and he quickly took advantage, landing a blistering and loaded left that dropped Sanchez to the canvas, Sanchez did not recover and referee Wes Melton wisely stopped the bout. The official time of the stoppage was .59 of round three. The speed and power of Valdez is simply amazing.

Valdez said after the fight, "I could feel the punch I threw on Sanchez from my knuckle all the way up my arm, it was a sweet shot." Without a doubt, Valdez is a gifted and extremely talented fighter who has his eye on becoming a world champion. Valdez says he wants to fight the best and will fight anyone in his division with a title belt.

Super lightweight Jose Benavidez Jr. 24-0, 16 KOs), the current interim WBA Super lightweight champion squared off against Sidney Siqueira (26-11-1, 17 KOs) in bout set for ten rounds. Benavidez Jr. was in control early, setting the tone of this fight by drawing Siqueira to fight him on the ropes and slipping out to the center of the ring.

The crowd was not impressed and constantly booed Benavidez Jr. every time he hung on the ropes. Siqueira’s punches lacked power for the most part and was no match for Benavidez Jr. By the mid-rounds, Benavidez Jr. slowly chipped away on Siqueira who appeared to be gassing out. By the end of round six, Benavidez Jr. frustrated Siqueira, making him pay with a barrage of punches.

Although most of Siqueira’s punches lacked power, he did manage to slip in a few punches on Benavidez Jr., but they had no effect. In round ten, Benavidez Jr. shot off a hard right that dropped Siqueira for a count, he would survive the count and continued fighting. The fight would go the distance and the judges score the bout 99-91 and 100-90 X 2 in favor of Benavidez Jr. for the unanimous decision win. After the fight, Benavidez Jr. said he was not feeling 100 percent and was sick last week with the flu, but was happy with his performance for the most part. Benavidez Jr., is a fighter who likes to mix it up, fighting in the center of the ring and sometimes hanging on the ropes, it’s just his style. The crowd sounds off with boos when they think he is spending too much time on the ropes, they want action.
