By Andrew Rivera: Within a week in the month of June there will be two fight cards showcasing New Mexico’s rising boxing stars of the future. New promoters Wrecking Crew Promotions will feature a 5-6 card event with the site to be finalized soon. Legacy Promotions headed by the Perez Brothers, Aaron and Jordan will have an eight fight card scheduled for the Route 66 Casino just outside Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Wrecking Crew’s card will be June 13th and feature three minor trinkets from the WBC. Fidel Maldonado Jr will defend his WBC fecarbox Jr welterweight title. Teammates Brian Mendoza and Matthew Greigo will fight for the USNBC belts. Mendoza will fight for the welterweight title while Griego will fight for super-flyweight crown.

The card will also feature Jose Osorio, who has been on a little win streak in the past year. The veteran and always tough Maldonado Jr. 24-4, is coming off a sixth round stoppage loss at the hands of Ismael Barroso last October. Maldonado Jr always taking on the best will look to get back on the winning track with yet to be name opponent.

Mendoza is 15-0 , but hasn’t defeated a fighter with a winning record , his opponents have a combined 47-123 record. According to his trainer Fidel Maldonado Sr., Mendoza is anxious to fight a tough fighter for this upcoming fight.

“He’s ready to make that jump and get to the next level and hopefully this fight will get him that. “Stated Maldonado Sr.

Griego 9-0, finally got a little test in his last fight with 64 fight veteran Alejandro Moreno, halting Moreno in the third round, prior his opponents were combined 3-24. Griego has talent and hopefully we will see him continue to step up in competition.

The following week Legacy Promotions will headline with Josh Torres taking on Cristin Cabral for the New Mexico State Welterweight title. Cabral has been calling out Torres for a few years and now they will finally square off.

The Albuquerque crowd favorite Torres is one of boxings good guys. Having a 17-6 record, Torres is still looking to avenge a close decision loss to former world title holder Mike Alvarado in 2016, but in the meantime will take on the 8-1 Cabral.

In the co main event, a fight, maybe five years too late, Mike Alderete 7-7-2, will battle crosstown rival Max Hayman, 25-13-4. The two last battled in 2010 with Heyman halting Alderete in the eighth round. Alderete won their first battle prior. Both fighters have been inactive for the past five years but look to break the tie.

Promoter Jordan Perez wants to keep all the fighters busy on his cards, hence the moniker Legacy uses, “Keeping fighters busy”.

“We want all fighters to be successful in New Mexico and with that, once we get them to a certain record or level we hope bigger promoters will be on the watch and give them a shot at bigger fights. “Says Perez. “Until then we will do our best to keep them active.
