Naoya ‘Monster’ Inoue, 16-0-(14), claimed the WBA Regular bantamweight title in Tokyo, Japan on Friday by destroying current champion Jamie McDonnell, 29-3-1nc-(13), inside one round.

The fierce punching Inoue, decked McDonnel twice before the fight was stopped after 1.52 of the first round.

McDonnell started the round by feeling out his opponent but after about a minute Inoue moved in, unloaded a few heavy shots before wobbling the champion with a left jab to the top of the head. He moved in again and dropped McDonnell with a left hook to the body. McDonnell managed to get to his feet but a second sustained attack on the ropes floored the champion again and the referee stepped in to stop the one sided fight.

After the fight the new Regular champion said he now wants to participate in the World Boxing Series against the other world champions.
